The maiden’s tale
I have heard of a maiden gay
Walking along the streets away
An idol of beauty and pride
With heart so gentle and kind
”Crystal clean” her heart was so
Never did find a chance to go
To explore the outer world so wide
With loveliest heart, Lord ever could guide
One was the day the day of luck
She met her man with gentle tuck
Their soul did meet and stared on
What a lass! The man had gone
Thirsty lips and rosy cheeks
She was in her beauty peaks….
This was a gift from heaven’s brink
Poured for the man to glance and drink
The heaven was blazing and stormy night
With lighting candles and sparks of delight
But love had kindled both then by
They lost their wits and mingled by
Oh! What a sin! They both had done
Foul customs did follow them run
Raged father with towering anger
Urged the ship-man found at hanger
Help! Ho! Help! My daughter gone
Let me behold who did this won
Father lamenting took a deep sigh
How could I save my girl from guy
He took his shiny, smoking sword
To go and slew his daughter’s Lord
The man did pray for his “Bonny Heart”
But father keeps no will to depart
They strived and strived and went on
Gave a look with furry upon
Treason and jealousy had hung them on
Both of them had now but gone
Oh! Who are they with blood so red?
Cried the maiden when she read
Both the men she found when dead
Again she was the lonely maid
But not as gay as early said.
